What is ATS Friendly Resume and How to Create?

What is an ATS-Friendly Resume and How to Create One!

I’m Amit Patel, and I promise you... after watching this video, you won’t need to watch another one about ATS-friendly resumes ever again.

Stay with me until the end, because I’m going to share a 10-second hack that can make your resume 60% more ATS-friendly—instantly!

Let me start by sharing a real experience: Last week, I was looking to hire a Marketing Manager for my company. I posted a job on LinkedIn and got 300 applicants in just 24 hours. And mind you, my company is nowhere near the size of the Fortune 500 companies where most of my clients work—and where you want to land a job.

Imagine how many applications those companies receive!

Now, do you think recruiters go through each one of them manually? No. So, how do you rank higher among hundreds or even thousands of applicants?

...

An ATS Ranking!

An ATS, or Applicant Tracking System, is software that many companies use to automatically screen and rank resumes before a human even sees them. That’s why having a great-looking resume isn’t enough—you need one that gets through this first filter.

...

But here’s the good news: I’ve not only mastered ATS systems, but I’ve also built them for companies, helping thousands of job seekers like you get more interviews. I know exactly what gets caught in these systems and what helps you shine through. So, if you want to land that dream job, listen closely.

...

Here are the 6 main elements of an ATS-friendly resume:

1. Clear Formatting:

ATS software struggles to read complex formatting like tables, columns, text boxes, or images. Stick to a clean, simple layout with well-defined sections. Consistency is key.

2. Optimize Section Headings:

Use standard section headings like “Work Experience,” “Skills,” “Education,” and “Certifications.” Avoid creative titles like “My Journey” or “Skills Toolbox.” It might look good to you, but the ATS won’t understand it.

3. Text-Based Content:

If you’re using PDFs or images in your resume, stop. ATS systems can’t read them effectively. Save your resume as a .docx file and make sure every bit of content is text-based.

4. Fonts and Size:

Choose standard fonts like Arial, Times New Roman, or Calibri. Keep it readable—11 or 12 points for the body text. Nothing fancy—just clear and simple.

5. Relevant Keywords:

This is the big one! Use keywords from the job description throughout your resume. If a role requires “Project Management,” make sure you include it. The more relevant keywords, the higher your resume ranks.

6. Quantify Achievements:

Numbers speak louder than words. Include metrics like “increased sales by 30%” or “managed a team of 15.” ATS systems recognize and prioritize resumes that showcase concrete results.

...

Now, remember… Your resume is your ticket to getting noticed. By making it ATS-friendly, you increase your chances of landing in front of a recruiter and getting that all-important first call.

...

Here’s the quick 10-second hack I promised you:

Simply paste the job description into a word cloud tool like Wordle or TagCrowd. This will instantly show you the top keywords that the ATS is looking for. Take those words, sprinkle them naturally throughout your resume, and boom—your resume just became 60% more ATS-friendly.

...

But don’t worry, I’m not going to leave you hanging after that. I’m here to help you build the full ATS-friendly resume that will actually get you 200-300% more interview calls.

I’ll guide you through every step to perfect that remaining 40%. And if you need personalized advice or want me to review your resume, just reach out!
